HOWLING WOODS FARM

So…I guess you can say we've been hanging out with "stars” recently. By that, we mean the four legged stars of course and more specifically, the wolf and the wolf dog variety.

We went to Howling Woods Farm in Jackson NJ to see some rescue wolfdogs and the real stars of the movie Sorcerers Apprentice and short film "She Wolf". They were very beautiful, gentle, friendly and incredibly loving animals.

We met Samson, who is a mix of an Alaskan malamute and wolf.

We were also able to meet Kotori, Orion, Sirius and Takoda.

Howling Woods Farm is a breed-specific animal shelter and learning center that rescues domestic-bred wolves, wolfdogs and northern breeds. In addition, they also help with reducing and funding a forever home for the different breeds that they have. We learned a lot about wolves despite what the movies, folklores and long tales might portray wolves to be. For example, wolves would not make good guard dogs because they are naturally afraid of the unfamiliar and will hide from visitors instead of barking at them. Another fact about them is that a wolf pup’s eyes are blue at birth but around the time they turn eight months their eyes turn yellow. Last but not least, wolves howl to contact separates pack members or as a warning for rival packs to stay away.

We had a lot of fun, learned new things and can't wait to visit again!
